Members
Residents or homeowners living in Lanikai or its sphere of influence who
believe it is important to preserve Lanikai's quality of life are welcome to
join. Local business owners are also welcome.
See Join LA for an application form to become a LA member.
Our monthly newsletter, the Lanikite, is a cohesive force for LA members, keeping them
informed of city issues and events and focused on the purposes of the
organization. Editorials often (but not always) express the opinion of LA members.
Meetings
Board Meetings are held regularly on the first Monday of the month; if that day is a holiday, the meeting is held on the following
Monday at the Lanikai community
meeting room. All meetings are open to the public and often feature speakers
of local interest.
LA members are represented on the Kailua Neighborhood Board. Board members review and carefully evaluate issues under consideration by
the City Council and Planning Commission and regularly attend these
meetings. They often speak for the board on issues of importance to
residents.
Lanikai Community Park
One of the most important functions of the Lanikai
Association is the maintenance of the community park and its associated
facilities which are frequently used by both young and old for soccer,
baseball, basketball, volleyball, and picnics. The fenced children's
playground area included swings, slides and other equipment.
The Lanikai park facilities can be rented to families
and groups for birthday parties, weddings and other celebrations. For your next family or social
gathering call Alan Lui for all the details at 753-4811.

Civic Involvement
Scout troops and the Lanikai Canoe Club are a few groups
supported by the Lanikai Association. The Lanikai Association also
provides support to the Honolulu Theater for Youth which holds plays at
the park. LA also provides financial support for recycling,
storage building for local sports activities and Keiki Halloween and
Christmas parties. Donations of communications equipment to a
volunteer security group in Kailua area is part of our dedication to local
safety. We also provide meals for the workers
who maintain Lanikai Point.
Social Events
The semi-annual Craft Fair was started over twenty years ago to
raise money to help cover operating costs for the park facilities. This
has evolved into a very successful event with a large attendance of both
vendors and customers. The Craft Fair has replaced the old luaus as the
association's major fund raising event.
A lively group of marching Lanikai Association members wearing colorful costumes is a popular feature of the city's annual Woe's
parade and New Year's breakfast.
Looking to the Future
The goals articulated over a half century ago by the original founders of the
Lanikai Association remain
relevant today:
- Maintaining Lanikai's unique quality of life for all residents.
- Promoting resident-oriented businesses that serve the needs of
residents of Lanikai.
- Controlling the impact of tourist-oriented commercial activities on the
residential quality of life in Lanikai.
- Developing creative solutions to the problems caused by tourism and
excessive development, both commercial and residential; also, advancing
the common interests of residents, property owners and businesses
consistent with Lanikai's residential character.
- Preserving Lanikai's architectural and village character.
- Protecting Lanikai's environment and its open space resources.
As it continues to pursue these goals, the LA will remain a positive,
responsible force for the preservation and protection of our neighborhoods
and the residential values of Lanikai.
