Hope Town, Abacos
July 19, 1997Full moon greetings!
Since our last website update, we have been in the glorious Bahamas, and I hope Ill get to finally upload this page and download my Email today for the first time in six weeks.
Its been a fantastic time. We picked up our Danish friends Klaus and Silas in Nassau, the capital. The first place we sailed to was Allens Cay, famous for its gigantic lizards.
As you approach the shore with your dinghy, they come right up to you, a little bit like a mini Jurassic park.
How do brave vikings like these two men handle such a reptilian plague? Klaus had no problem forgetting about such a disturbing event, enjoying some of the wonders of Caribbean treats....![]()
Achim found a message in a bottle! It took us a good half hour to pull it out of the champagne bottle, for it was wet and tearing. The message was 8 years old, and from what we could tell, the bottle had journeyed across the Atlantic twice before it landed on the beach in Cambridge Cay. Well try to get in touch with the gals who threw the bottle off the New Jersey coast in 1988.
The best way to experience the ocean is in your birthday suit, but when youre around civilization, ya gotta wear SOMETHING. In Georgetown, I sewed Achim a bathingsuit, which ended up fitting him quite nicely.
Here I am swimming with a dolphin in Georgetown. This creature was so friendly, he swims right up to you, smiling the whole time.

Klaus and Silas missed out on this school of porpoises, which escorted us into the Abacos on the way to pick up mom and dad.
MOM and DAD My parents have visited the boat several times, but this was the first time they stayed for a week and actually went sailing with us. We picked the Abacos for them because they are gentle islands, and the sailing between them is easygoing and close. Our time together was fantastic. Mom got to steer the boat from Marsh Harbor into Guana Cay, where we drank Guana nippers and watched the sky blaze with both lightening and independence day firecrackers.
We then sailed down to Hope Town for my birthday, visited the lighthouse, sat on the beaches drinking Pina coladas and enjoyed the tropical beauty of these isles. I miss them already!
On my birthday we had a most difficult game of Scrabble, which ended in nobody able to move on this stuck board. Do YOU see a good move on it?
Thanks for visiting us, look for a new update once we hit the Florida coast again.
